Roller Skate Formulas & Durometers Explained

Please Contact Us if you would like a personalized recommendation. We would love to help!

Roller skaters feel the effect of cushions (also known as bushings) very differently than skateboarders due since your weight will be divided across two skates, and each truck has a smaller hanger so you have less leverage.  You will want softer than what we recommend for skateboards and these weight charts should be helpful in giving you a starting point with our formulas. We have a recommended starting point on these charts because experience and preference have a higher impact on what you choose more than wieght. Most stock cushions are too hard and the urethanes are not as reponsive, putting strain on your joints and making it difficult to do leans or plow stops that require your trucks to turn. These charts are guided from roller derby feedback. If you are looking for park skating we would recommend to go harder than stated below.

APS Formula for Roller Skates - Our most popular and ranged formula. APS has a lively feel and high rebound, making it great for disciplines like derby jammers or switches, outdoor or street riders, or anyone new to rollerskating or changing their cushions. This formula will quickly change the feel of your skates over stock and give you a solid base on how your skates should perform. 75a - 80a will work for most riders.

Krank Formula for Roller Skates - Our hardest formula for roller skates gives you confidence to go faster and harder than you would on our other formulas. Krank gives you a heavy base with strong edge support while giving you great control and feeling of your skates. We recommend this formula for more aggressive skating styles like derby blockers, park or speed skating styles. 84a will work for most riders.

WFB Formula for Roller Skates - Our smoothest formula with lubrication within the urethane is for experienced riders. WFB has a very clean and smooth edge feel on long turns. The fluid feeling of this formula lets you control the skates to the fullest. 78a will be a great starting point for most riders.
